Former President Joe Biden Diagnosed with Stage 4 Prostate Cancer
Former U.S. President Joe Biden, 82, has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bones, classifying it as Stage 4. The diagnosis followed the onset of urinary symptoms, leading to medical evaluations that revealed a Gleason score of 9 out of 10, indicating a highly aggressive cancer. Despite the severity, the cancer appears hormone-sensitive, which may allow for more manageable treatment options.
Biden's personal history with cancer is profound. In 2015, his son, Beau Biden, died from brain cancer at the age of 46. This loss deeply influenced Biden's commitment to cancer research and advocacy. In 2022, during his presidency, he relaunched the Cancer Moonshot initiative, aiming to reduce the death rate from cancer by at least 50% over the next 25 years and improve the experience of living with and surviving cancer.
In a public appearance following the announcement, Biden expressed gratitude for the support received, emphasizing that "cancer affects us all." Messages of support have poured in from both Democrats and Republicans, including former President Donald Trump.
Medical experts note that while metastatic prostate cancer isn't curable, advancements in treatment can extend life expectancy and improve quality of life. Biden and his family are currently reviewing treatment options.
Vice President J.D. Vance publicly questioned whether former President Joe Biden was fit to serve as Commander in Chief following Biden’s recent diagnosis. Vance expressed well-wishes for Biden’s recovery but criticized the former administration for not being transparent about his health and raised concerns about national security given Biden’s responsibilities.
Biden's diagnosis brings his personal and political battles with cancer into sharp focus. As he confronts this challenge, the nation reflects on his contributions to cancer research and the ongoing fight against the disease.
