Square Enix releases story-focused 'final trailer' for Final Fantasy Resonance at Tokyo Game Show
Square Enix used the opening of Tokyo Game Show 2026 on Thursday to release a story-focused “final trailer” for Final Fantasy Resonance, offering its clearest official look yet at the role-playing game’s narrative about a month before launch.
In an update on its Japanese Final Fantasy portal, Square Enix said it released the trailer Sept. 17 and tied the reveal directly to Tokyo Game Show, which opened the same day in Japan. The company said the video condenses the game’s story, describing it as a tale centered on crystals, revenge and bonds. That makes the new trailer more than a routine launch push: it is the most direct summary yet of the plot Square Enix is foregrounding for the game’s final marketing stretch.
Final Fantasy Resonance is scheduled to launch Oct. 22, 2026, on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, according to Square Enix. The Steam version is set to follow on Oct. 23, 2026. Those dates place the game just over a month out from release as Square Enix ramps up its Tokyo Game Show presence.
The game was first announced June 11, 2026, during a Nintendo Direct presentation. At the time, Square Enix positioned it as the first “HD-2D” Final Fantasy title, using the visual style popularized by several of the publisher’s recent role-playing games. Square Enix has also described Final Fantasy Resonance as a console-quality reworking of the first story arc, or Season 1, of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, rather than a direct port. That framing helps explain why the new trailer leans so heavily on story beats and cinematic presentation: the company is revisiting familiar material in a format aimed at console and PC players.
At Square Enix’s booth at Tokyo Game Show 2026, the game is also being shown in a playable demo format. The company said attendees can try three options — New Game, Dungeon and Arena — and that limited giveaways are available for players on site. Square Enix also said the trailer uses “INSIDE” by WurtS as its image song. With the final trailer now out and public hands-on demos underway at TGS, Square Enix has shifted Final Fantasy Resonance into its last prelaunch phase ahead of its October debut.
