Cardi B to Be Honored with ASCAP's Voice of the Culture Award
On May 21, 2025, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) announced that Cardi B will receive the prestigious Voice of the Culture Award. The honor will be presented at an exclusive event in Los Angeles on June 8, 2025.
The Voice of the Culture Award is bestowed upon ASCAP members who have significantly influenced music and culture. Usher received the award in 2024.
Cardi B, born Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, has achieved numerous milestones in her career. She made history in 2020 as the first woman to receive consecutive ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Songwriter of the Year Awards and has accumulated 23 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards. Her debut album, "Invasion of Privacy," won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album in 2019, making her the first solo female artist to achieve this honor. She also holds the record for the most number-one singles (five) on the Billboard Hot 100 among female rappers.
ASCAP President Paul Williams praised Cardi B's impact, stating, "Cardi B has left an indelible mark on the culture of hip-hop by redefining and challenging the norms for women. Having broken through countless barriers with her unapologetic authenticity ... ."
