Arizona Man Indicted for Arson at Jewish Community Center, Highlighting Rising Threats to Religious Institutions

On November 18, 2025, a federal grand jury in Phoenix indicted Everardo Gregorio, 31, of Casa Grande, Arizona, on charges of obstructing the free exercise of religious beliefs by fire. The fire, which ignited around 4:53 a.m., caused extensive damage to the synagogue's worship area, as well as a kosher grocery store and restaurant housed within the same building. He was arrested on March 5, 2025, and initially charged with arson by the Pinal County Attorney’s Office.
