Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold surrenders in Florida; prosecutors to file kidnapping, armed robbery charges

Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold surrendered to authorities Wednesday evening in Hillsborough County, Florida, and was taken into custody after prosecutors said they will file multiple felony charges tied to a February robbery and kidnapping case in Tampa.

The Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office said Arnold is facing four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery, according to local booking and records reports cited by multiple outlets. Prosecutors said the charges carry a potential sentence of up to life in prison.

The allegations stem from an incident in the early hours of Feb. 4 in Tampa. According to police statements and court filings cited by news outlets, three victims were allegedly held at gunpoint, battered and pistol-whipped, and had belongings taken.

Tampa police said investigators believe Arnold was the “primary conspirator.” Investigators also say the alleged kidnapping and robbery were retaliation after Arnold and associates reported property stolen from an Airbnb in Largo earlier that month.

Arnold, through his representative, denied any involvement. Denise White, CEO of EAG Sports Management, said: “There is no credible evidence linking Mr. Arnold to these allegations. Instead, the government appears to be relying on testimony from multiple convicted felons who have admitted their own involvement and may have substantial incentives to shift blame in an effort to lessen their sentences.”

The Detroit Lions said they were aware of the case but declined further comment. “We are aware of the ongoing legal situation regarding Terrion Arnold. We will not comment at this time out of respect for the ongoing legal process,” the team said in a statement.

Arnold is a 23-year-old former Alabama cornerback who was selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft and became a starter in Detroit’s secondary, making the arrest notable well beyond local crime coverage.

The state attorney’s office said in a social media post that it “will file charges” against Arnold following his arrest in connection with the Tampa case. Tampa police said Arnold turned himself in at the Orient Road jail Wednesday night.

The Associated Press reported Arnold was expected to make his first court appearance Thursday. Prosecutors also said they planned to seek pretrial detention, arguing Arnold is a danger to the community while the case is pending.
