Cowboys reach agreement with Von Miller during training camp in Oxnard
The Dallas Cowboys announced Sunday that they have reached an agreement with veteran pass rusher Von Miller, adding one of the NFL’s most accomplished edge defenders during training camp in Oxnard, California.
The move gives Dallas a high-profile veteran with recent production and deep credentials, while also bringing a North Texas native back home. The Cowboys’ announcement did not disclose contract length, money, guarantees or salary cap details.
Miller, whom the team listed as a 37-year-old from DeSoto, Texas, played the 2025 season with the Washington Commanders. According to the Cowboys’ release, he appeared in all 17 games and had nine sacks, 26 tackles and six tackles for loss while playing roughly 420 defensive snaps. That production is a key part of why the addition stands out: Miller was still contributing as a pass rusher last season, even in a rotational role.
Dallas also emphasized the résumé Miller brings to the position group. The Cowboys’ release credited him with two Super Bowl titles, Super Bowl 50 MVP honors with Denver, eight Pro Bowl selections, three first-team All-Pro selections and the 2011 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award. The team also said Miller was named to the NFL’s 2010s All-Decade Team.
By the Cowboys’ count, Miller has 138.5 career sacks, making him the NFL’s active leader in that category and tying him with former Cowboys star DeMarcus Ware for ninth on the league’s all-time sacks list. That combination of production, longevity and postseason pedigree gives Dallas an established name to add to its front-seven rotation.
The Cowboys framed Miller as a veteran addition to a younger edge and outside linebacker group that includes Rashan Gary, rookie Malachi Lawrence, Donovan Ezeiruaku, James Houston, Sam Williams, Marist Liufau and Tyrus Wheat. In the team’s Spanish-language announcement, defensive coordinator Christian Parker described the unit this way: “Es un grupo joven, pero con mucha hambre de triunfar … Quieren rendir cuentas, detener el juego terrestre y presionar al mariscal, y creemos que pueden hacerlo.”
For Dallas, Miller’s arrival is both a football move and a homecoming story. The Cowboys noted that Miller is from DeSoto, about 30 minutes from AT&T Stadium, giving the franchise a decorated veteran pass rusher with local roots as camp continues in California.
The team said only that it had “reached an agreement” with Miller. It did not announce any contract terms.
