MSC Air Cargo Orders Five Boeing 777-8 Freighters at Farnborough Airshow
FARNBOROUGH, United Kingdom — Boeing said Tuesday that MSC Air Cargo has ordered five 777-8 Freighters, the cargo carrier’s first order for the model and another public sign of demand for Boeing’s next-generation large freighter.
The announcement, made at the Farnborough International Airshow, adds to Boeing’s push to build momentum for the 777-8 Freighter as production activity advances. Boeing said it has “booked more than 80 orders” for the aircraft. For MSC Air Cargo, a subsidiary of MSC Group, the deal marks a step beyond operating existing freighters and toward adding new-build aircraft to expand its air cargo network.
“With this order, we are investing in the long-term future of MSC Air Cargo and in the customers we serve,” Jannie Davel, CEO of MSC Air Cargo, said in Boeing’s July 21 press release. “The 777-8 Freighter gives us the efficiency, range and capacity to serve our customers reliably for years to come, while advancing our commitment to more sustainable operations. It is the right aircraft for the next stage of our growth.”
MSC Air Cargo is part of MSC Group, the global shipping and logistics company that expanded into air cargo in 2022. According to MSC Air Cargo’s website, the airline was launched in late 2022, is led by Davel and operates seven Boeing 777 freighters. Boeing said the carrier already flies a fleet of 777-200 Freighters.
The 777-8 Freighter was formally launched by Boeing on Jan. 31, 2022, with Qatar Airways as the launch customer. The program has moved further into production this year: reports in March said major sections of the aircraft had entered final assembly in Everett, Washington, as Boeing advanced the 777-8F into production activity in 2026.
Boeing did not disclose pricing, delivery dates or financing terms for MSC Air Cargo’s order. The purchase comes as the cargo market continues to expand. The International Air Transport Association, the airline industry trade group, said global air cargo demand rose 6.0% from a year earlier in May 2026.
