Brock Lesnar Retires From Professional Wrestling After SummerSlam Loss

Brock Lesnar has retired from professional wrestling, WWE reported, ending the in-ring career of one of the most prominent crossover stars of his era. Lesnar, 49, built a rare résumé at the top of both WWE and mixed martial arts, winning 10 world championships in WWE and later becoming UFC heavyweight champion.

WWE said Lesnar made the announcement during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.” The news came days after his most recent match, when Oba Femi defeated Lesnar in a Hell in a Cell bout at SummerSlam Saturday on Aug. 1, 2026. The match was part of WWE’s two-night SummerSlam event at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, according to WWE’s official results.

In its recap of the match, WWE said Lesnar embraced Femi afterward and presented him as the future of the company. The post-match moment underscored the significance WWE attached to the result, with Lesnar’s final bout ending in defeat to a rising star.

Lesnar debuted in WWE in 2002 and quickly rose to the top of the promotion. WWE lists him as a 10-time world champion in the company, with seven WWE Championship reigns and three Universal Championship reigns. That run made him one of the defining stars of modern WWE, and his success beyond wrestling added to his stature.

He also reached the top of UFC, where records show he won the heavyweight title by defeating Randy Couture on Nov. 15, 2008. That championship, alongside his WWE accomplishments, made Lesnar an uncommon crossover figure whose name carried weight with both wrestling fans and a broader combat-sports audience.

WWE’s announcement specified that Lesnar has retired from professional wrestling. His biography on WWE’s website also reflects that he stepped away after his initial run and later returned in 2012.

Even in a business where departures can be fluid, Lesnar’s announcement matters because of the scale of his résumé and his place in WWE history. His final match, as WWE framed it, also served as a handoff moment: a veteran champion leaving the ring after elevating a younger star on one of the company’s biggest stages.
