Brewers to host Rays in 2026 World Series opener Friday at American Family Field
Game 1 of the 2026 World Series is set for Friday night in Milwaukee, with first pitch scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at American Family Field. The opener will air on FOX, and MLB’s official schedule also lists FOX One, FOX Deportes and authenticated MLB.TV and radio options. The likely pitching matchup, according to MLB’s Brewers preview, is Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Drew Rasmussen against Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Jacob Misiorowski, though official starters had not been announced.
The stakes are straightforward: this series guarantees a first-time champion. Neither franchise has won a World Series, and Milwaukee earned home-field advantage after finishing with a franchise-record 103 wins, compared with Tampa Bay’s 98. It also will be the first World Series game played at American Family Field. Because both clubs play in roofed home parks, the matchup also has drawn attention for the possibility of MLB’s first all-indoor World Series.
If the projected starters hold, Game 1 will open with a marquee pitching duel. Rasmussen, described in MLB coverage as the Rays’ ace, would be working on four days’ rest. Since the All-Star break, he is 11-0 with a 1.73 ERA in 15 starts. Misiorowski is coming off a dominant regular season, posting a 1.80 ERA with 252 strikeouts, a 0.80 WHIP and a .157 opponents’ batting average. In NLDS Game 1, his first pitch was clocked at 104.8 mph, which MLB said was the fastest postseason pitch in the Statcast era. Milwaukee also comes in with extra rest after a four-game NLCS; MLB’s preview said Misiorowski was lined up to have 11 full days off since his last game action against another team.
Projected batting orders, as listed in MLB’s preview and subject to change, are these for Tampa Bay: Yandy DĂaz, DH; Jonathan Aranda, 1B; Junior Caminero, 3B; Liam Hicks, C; Chandler Simpson, LF; Victor Mesa Jr., RF; Jonny DeLuca, CF; Richie Palacios, 2B; Taylor Walls, SS.
Milwaukee’s projected lineup: Jackson Chourio, LF; Brice Turang, 2B; William Contreras, C; Jake Bauers, 1B; Christian Yelich, DH; Garrett Mitchell, CF; Cooper Pratt, SS; Sal Frelick, RF; David Hamilton, 3B.
There is plenty of late-game context to know going into Friday. MLB’s preview notes Tampa Bay is 92-0 this season, regular season and postseason combined, when leading after eight innings. The Rays also are navigating the postseason without left-hander Shane McClanahan, who is out. Milwaukee’s bullpen has been a major strength, with Brewers relievers going 7-1 with a 1.33 ERA in the postseason.
Official starting pitchers and batting orders are typically announced about 60 to 90 minutes before first pitch, so Friday’s final card could still change. But the early outline is already compelling: two pennant winners, two of baseball’s best teams and a World Series opener that should begin with Rasmussen against Misiorowski. As Rays president of baseball operations Erik Neander put it in MLB’s preview, “The World Series is about to be [between] two exceptional baseball teams. It’s going to be a blast to watch.”
