Game 4 preview: Brewers one win from first World Series title in Tampa Bay

·

Game 4 of the World Series is Tuesday night, and the Milwaukee Brewers are one win from the first championship in franchise history.

First pitch is set for 8 p.m. ET at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. The game will air nationally on FOX in English, with streaming on FOX One and Spanish-language coverage on FOX Deportes. Milwaukee leads the best-of-seven series 3-0 after a 10-1 win in Game 3 on Monday night.

Tampa Bay is scheduled to start right-hander Griffin Jax. Milwaukee’s starter was still listed as TBD in MLB’s pregame preview. MLB said the Brewers’ options included Dustin May, Kyle Harrison, Shane Drohan or a bullpen-or-opener approach. Brandon Woodruff’s work in Game 3 affected Milwaukee’s available choices.

MLB’s pregame preview listed these expected lineups for Game 4:

For Milwaukee: Jackson Chourio in left field, Jake Bauers at first base, Christian Yelich at designated hitter, William Contreras at catcher, Brice Turang at second base, Garrett Mitchell in center field, Cooper Pratt at shortstop, Sal Frelick in right field and David Hamilton at third base.

For Tampa Bay: Yandy Díaz at designated hitter, Jonathan Aranda at first base, Junior Caminero at third base, Liam Hicks at catcher, Chandler Simpson in left field, Victor Mesa Jr. in right field, Jonny DeLuca in center field, Richie Palacios at second base and Taylor Walls at shortstop.

The stakes are straightforward. A Brewers victory would end the series in a sweep and deliver Milwaukee its first World Series title. A Rays win would keep the series alive, but history is stacked against Tampa Bay after falling behind 3-0. In best-of-seven Major League Baseball postseason series, teams trailing 3-0 have come back to win only once in 43 tries, with the 2004 Boston Red Sox the lone exception. MLB also noted that no team down 3-0 in the World Series had ever even forced a Game 6.

So Game 4 is both a title chance for Milwaukee and a last stand for Tampa Bay.

“We all love each other in this room,” Brewers second baseman Brice Turang told MLB.com. “We’re gonna go compete for each other as hard as we possibly can. We’ve gotta finish the job, we’ve gotta keep putting pressure on them.”
