CD Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel dies at 30 after collapsing in match vs. FC Andorra
CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel has died at 30, the Spanish club said Tuesday, a day after he collapsed following an on-field collision during a second-division match against FC Andorra.
Tenerife said Jesús de Miguel Alameda, known as Jesús de Miguel, died at 8 a.m. Tuesday. His death followed an incident late in Monday’s LaLiga Hypermotion match at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. LaLiga’s match page lists the game as suspended, with the score tied 2-2 when play was halted.
According to match reports and club updates, de Miguel went down after colliding with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono as Owono came out to challenge for the ball. De Miguel received treatment on the field before being taken off on a stretcher and transported by ambulance to Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria. Tenerife said he was admitted to intensive care.
The club said earlier that de Miguel was “stable, within the severity” of his condition. It later said his neurological state worsened overnight before confirming his death Tuesday morning.
Spanish press reports citing the referee’s report said Owono was shown a straight red card after the challenge. Those reports described the incident as a high-leg challenge involving excessive force while the ball was being contested. There are differing accounts of the exact minute when the match was stopped.
The death prompted tributes across Spanish soccer.
According to the federation’s communiqué, Tuesday’s Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina matches were suspended as a mark of respect.
De Miguel was a Madrid-born forward who joined Tenerife in July 2025. In its statement, the club said his family was grateful for the support it had received and asked for privacy “en estos terribles momentos.”
