Roblox Introduces 'Moments' and AI Tools Amid Safety Concerns

Roblox Corporation, the popular online gaming platform, has recently introduced "Roblox Moments," a feature allowing users aged 13 and older to capture, edit, and share 30-second gameplay clips within a scrollable feed. This initiative aims to enhance user engagement by enabling the community to showcase their in-game experiences directly on the platform.

The "Roblox Moments" feature, announced during the Roblox Developers Conference on September 5, 2025, offers users the ability to record and edit short gameplay videos, add music through a partnership with DistroKid, and write descriptions before sharing them. The feature includes a gallery of user-captured content, allowing users to discover new experiences and engage with the community. Roblox plans to release API-based capabilities later this year, enabling creators to build their own in-experience content creation and discovery systems.

In addition to "Roblox Moments," the company unveiled new AI tools designed to assist creators in generating interactive 3D objects. These tools allow creators to input prompts like "a sleek, futuristic red sports car," resulting in the AI producing a drivable vehicle that can be further customized. This advancement is expected to streamline the creation process and expand the creative possibilities within the platform.

These developments come amid heightened scrutiny regarding child safety on the platform. On August 14, 2025, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill filed a lawsuit against Roblox, alleging that the platform has failed to implement effective safety measures to protect child users from adult predators. The lawsuit claims that Roblox has facilitated the distribution of child sexual abuse material and failed to implement basic safety controls, thereby endangering the safety of children. Murrill stated, "Roblox created, curated and perpetuated an online environment where child sex predators thrive, unite, hunt and victimize kids."

In response to these concerns, Roblox has implemented several safety measures:

  • Age Verification: The platform is expanding its age-estimation technology, requiring users to submit video selfies to verify their age. This system categorizes users into age groups (under 13, 13+, or 18+) and imposes tailored communication restrictions accordingly.

  • Content Moderation: Roblox has updated its policies to ban content implying sexual activity and restrict access to virtual spaces like bedrooms and bars to verified users aged 17 and older.

  • AI Safety Tools: The company has developed "Roblox Sentinel," an AI system designed to detect early signs of potential child endangerment by analyzing communication patterns.

These initiatives reflect Roblox's commitment to enhancing user engagement through new features while addressing safety concerns through advanced verification and moderation systems. The company's proactive measures in response to safety concerns demonstrate an ongoing effort to balance innovation with user protection.
