Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws From French Open and Rome After Right Wrist Injury

Carlos Alcaraz said Friday he will miss the French Open because of a right wrist injury, a decision that also rules him out of the Italian Open in Rome as he continues his recovery.

The withdrawal is a major blow to Roland-Garros. Alcaraz, the world No. 2 in ATP coverage, is the two-time defending men’s champion in Paris after winning the title in 2024 and 2025. That means the French Open will be played without its reigning two-time champion and one of the biggest names in men’s tennis.

The injury issue developed during the clay-court season. Alcaraz reached the Monte Carlo final on April 12, losing to Jannik Sinner, then moved on to Barcelona, where he won his opening match. But ATP coverage said he withdrew April 15 after medical tests on his right wrist. In comments reported by ATP after that withdrawal, Alcaraz said the problem was “a bit more serious than we all expected” and that he needed to “listen to my body.”

Roland-Garros is scheduled to run from May 18 to June 7. Alcaraz said he will wait to evaluate his recovery before deciding when he can return to competition.
