Former TSM Valorant player Tyler “sym” Porter dies at 21 in reported car crash

Former TSM and Moist Moguls Valorant player Tyler “sym” Porter has died at 21 in a reported car accident, according to a social media post from a friend that was cited by multiple esports outlets and later acknowledged in a public tribute from TSM.

Those reports also said Porter’s friend Austen Reed, known in esports as “yuno,” died in the same crash. Public coverage traced the initial confirmation to an X post from a friend identified as Harry. No publicly accessible police report, coroner statement or law enforcement confirmation of the crash circumstances, including an exact location or cause, was available in the research reviewed for those reports.

Porter was a North American Valorant player who had competed since 2020 and became known in the game’s second-tier professional scene, including the Challengers and Ascension circuit. His career drew particular attention because he moved from TSM’s academy roster to the organization’s main Valorant team, a notable path inside one of North America’s best-known esports brands. He also played for Moist Moguls, later Moist Esports, another high-profile team in the region. Earlier in 2026, he was most recently listed as a stand-in for Winthrop University.

TSM confirmed Porter’s death in a public post mourning both players. “From elevating our Academy program to helping us reach Ascension on the main roster, you left your mark on TSM VALORANT. You had so much ahead of you, and we’ll miss you dearly, @symstar. May you and Austen rest in peace,” the organization wrote.

Harry’s earlier post, as reproduced by multiple outlets, said Porter and Reed “sadly passed away late last night in a car accident” and added that Porter had been celebrating his 21st birthday trip. That public announcement was posted May 5, a day after the crash was reported to have occurred late on May 4.

Porter’s death prompted condolences across the Valorant community, where he was remembered as a rising player with ties to several prominent North American teams. The reaction was especially broad because of his time with TSM and Moist, two organizations with large followings in esports.

Beyond the friend’s public statement and team tributes, however, key details about the crash had not been publicly documented in official records available through the research. For now, the publicly confirmed facts are limited to the announcements from those close to Porter and the tributes that followed from the teams and community that knew him.
