Square Enix Reveals Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Final Remake Installment Due Spring 2027

·

Square Enix has officially named the concluding chapter of its Final Fantasy VII remake project: Final Fantasy VII Revelation. Revealed during Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest showcase on June 5, the game is set to launch in spring 2027 with a simultaneous day-one release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.

The announcement confirms Revelation as the third and final entry in the company’s remake trilogy, wrapping up a retelling of one of gaming’s most influential role-playing games. It also marks a notable shift in release strategy. The earlier entries had a more PlayStation-centered rollout, while Revelation is set to arrive across all announced platforms at the same time.

New trailer footage shown during the reveal offered a brief look at what players can expect to see in the finale. The video included shots of the Highwind and broader open-area exploration, towering Weapons and Meteor-related imagery. It also showed Vincent Valentine and Cid in combat footage, giving a clearer glimpse of two key party members in action without spelling out broader story details.

Naoki Hamaguchi, director of the remake trilogy, appeared on stage during the reveal and highlighted the wider launch plan. “I’m truly delighted to unveil Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, which is launching simultaneously on all platforms,” Hamaguchi said, as quoted by VGC.

The original Final Fantasy VII debuted in 1997, and Square Enix has been retelling it as a three-part remake project for modern hardware. Final Fantasy VII Remake launched in 2020, followed by Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PS5 on Feb. 29, 2024. With Revelation, Square Enix has now put a name and release window on the trilogy’s finale, though no specific date beyond spring 2027 has been announced.
