Karim Adeyemi Signs Five-Year Contract With Barcelona, Leaving Borussia Dortmund

·

Karim Adeyemi has completed a move from Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona, giving the Spanish club a 24-year-old Germany attacker with top-level experience and ending his four-year spell in the Bundesliga. Bundesliga.com reported Thursday that Adeyemi signed a five-year contract with Barcelona, completing a notable transfer between two of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Reported financial details were not confirmed in the source material announcing the move. Earlier this month, transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano reported: “Deal agreed club to club for €22m plus €7m add-ons.” Romano also reported that Dortmund retained a 20% sell-on or plus-value clause. Reporting around the deal had also said Adeyemi’s Dortmund contract ran until June 2027, a factor widely cited as helping explain the relatively modest fee.

Dortmund CEO Lars Ricken acknowledged the departure in comments carried by Bundesliga.com. “Karim was an important part of Borussia Dortmund over the last four years,” Ricken said. “However, we came to the agreement this summer that both we and Karim see different futures for each other.” Adeyemi also issued a farewell message to the German club, saying: “I'd like to say thanks for four great years at Borussia Dortmund … I wish BVB all the best for the future.”

Adeyemi leaves Dortmund after making 146 appearances in all competitions, scoring 36 goals and providing 24 assists, according to Bundesliga.com. He joined the club in 2022 after his earlier spell at Red Bull Salzburg, where he recorded 33 goals and 24 assists in 94 appearances. Bundesliga.com describes Adeyemi as an attacker who can play wide or through the middle, adding versatility to his profile as he makes the switch to Spain.

The move also reunites Adeyemi with Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, who previously gave him his senior Germany debut in September 2021, according to Bundesliga.com. Adeyemi has been capped by Germany since then, and Barcelona now add an international attacker still in his mid-20s on a long-term deal. Earlier in the week, EFE reported that Barcelona president Joan Laporta said the club would present Adeyemi on Wednesday.
