Ecuadorian Artist Franz del Castillo Aims to Break Record with 3,000-Meter Drawing
Ecuadorian artist Franz del Castillo is embarking on an ambitious project to create a 3,000-meter-long drawing, aiming to set a new world record for the longest drawing by an individual. This endeavor seeks to surpass the current record of 1,014.37 meters, achieved by Chinese artist Guo Feng in 2019.
Del Castillo, renowned for his rapid caricature skills, previously set a Guinness World Record in 2017 by drawing 163 live caricatures in one hour in Ibarra, Ecuador. His portfolio includes caricatures of approximately 200 celebrities, such as Pope Francis during his 2015 visit to Ecuador, Paul McCartney in 2014, Luis Fonsi, and the Backstreet Boys.
The current record for the longest drawing by an individual was set by Guo Feng on September 14, 2019, in Beijing, China. Feng's drawing, titled "Yongsheng," measured 1,014.37 meters and depicted the development of civilization through time. The project took over 60 days to complete and was created on the Simatai Great Wall.
Del Castillo's project not only aims to break this record but also to highlight Ecuador's cultural prominence on the global stage. By undertaking this monumental task, he showcases his commitment to pushing artistic boundaries and contributing to the nation's artistic heritage.
The pursuit of creating the longest drawing has seen various records over the years. Prior to Guo Feng's achievement, the record was held by Singaporean artist Edmund Chen, who completed a 601.255-meter-long drawing in 2013. These endeavors reflect a global fascination with large-scale art projects and the desire to push the limits of artistic expression.
Del Castillo's initiative underscores the evolving nature of art and the continuous quest for innovation. By attempting to set a new world record, he not only challenges himself but also inspires others to explore the vast possibilities within the realm of art.
