IBM and AMD Partner to Pioneer Quantum-Centric Supercomputing

IBM and AMD have announced a strategic partnership to develop next-generation computing architectures that integrate quantum computing with high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) accelerators. This collaboration aims to create quantum-centric supercomputers capable of addressing complex problems beyond the reach of classical computing alone.

The partnership focuses on developing scalable, open-source platforms that combine IBM's quantum computing systems with AMD's HPC and AI technologies. By integrating AMD's CPUs, GPUs, and FPGAs with IBM's quantum computers, the collaboration seeks to accelerate the development of new algorithms and computing architectures that leverage the strengths of both quantum and classical systems.

An initial demonstration is planned for later this year to showcase how IBM's quantum computers can work alongside AMD's technologies in hybrid quantum-classical workflows. Additionally, the companies plan to explore how open-source ecosystems, such as Qiskit, can facilitate the development and adoption of new algorithms that leverage quantum-centric supercomputing.
