Rams Acquire Myles Garrett from Browns for Jared Verse and Three Draft Picks

·

The Los Angeles Rams have agreed to acquire reigning AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns in a blockbuster offseason trade, the teams announced June 1, with Cleveland receiving young edge rusher Jared Verse and three draft picks.

The Browns said in a press release that all NFL trades are pending a physical. Multiple league reporters, including ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network, reported that Garrett waived his no-trade clause to allow the deal to be completed.

Per the Browns’ announcement, the Rams will receive Garrett. The Browns will get Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a 2029 third-round pick.

The move gives Los Angeles one of the league’s most accomplished defensive players in a clear win-now push. Garrett, 30, was the AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year for the 2025 season and also won the award in 2023, according to the Rams’ team release. The Rams said Garrett set the NFL single-season sack record with 23 sacks in 2025.

Through the end of the 2025 season, Garrett had 125.5 career sacks in 134 games, according to the Rams. He entered the NFL as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 draft out of Texas A&M and had been the Browns’ defining defensive star since arriving in Cleveland.

Cleveland’s return centers on Verse, the Rams’ 2024 first-round pick and one of the NFL’s most promising young pass rushers. The Browns said Verse was the 2024 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year and has made the Pro Bowl in each of his first two seasons.

That gives the Browns a cost-controlled edge rusher with early-career accolades, along with three future picks to help reshape the roster. The package underscores that Cleveland was not simply moving on from a star player, but seeking both an immediate replacement on the edge and additional draft capital.

Browns general manager Andrew Berry, in the team’s June 1 press release, pointed to Verse as central to the deal.

“Chief among the considerations to make the decision was the inclusion of Jared Verse–a player our fan base will love,” Berry said.

Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam described the trade as a difficult decision tied to the franchise’s broader direction.

“Trading Myles was never our intent, but we also recognize that certain opportunities demand serious consideration, and we believe this is the right move for our team,” the Haslams said in the Browns’ release.

For the Rams, the trade fits a familiar approach of using premium assets to land established star talent rather than relying only on the draft. In this case, the price was substantial: a recent first-round edge rusher with major early honors, plus a first-, second- and third-round pick spread over the next three drafts.

For the Browns, the deal marks the end of an era with the departure of a two-time Defensive Player of the Year who had become the face of their defense. For the Rams, it is one of the biggest moves of the offseason, bringing in a record-setting pass rusher still performing at the top of the league.
