Seahawks acquire All‑Pro guard Quenton Nelson from Colts in trade for 2027 third‑ and 2028 fifth‑round picks
The Seattle Seahawks announced Tuesday that they are acquiring All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson from the Indianapolis Colts, pending his physical, in exchange for a 2027 third-round draft pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick.
The move gives Seattle, the defending Super Bowl LX champion, one of the NFL’s most accomplished interior offensive linemen in a significant in-season addition about two weeks before the Nov. 10 trade deadline.
Nelson, 30, was drafted No. 6 overall by Indianapolis in 2018 out of Notre Dame and quickly became one of the league’s most decorated guards. In its announcement, Seattle said Nelson was selected to the Pro Bowl in each of his first eight seasons, from 2018 through 2025, and highlighted his All-Pro résumé. He spent his entire career with the Colts before Tuesday’s deal.
The Seahawks also pointed to Nelson’s current-season production. Citing Pro-Football-Reference, the team said Nelson has allowed no sacks in 275 pass-blocking snaps in 2026 and has posted a 2.2% pressure rate.
The timing underscores the stakes for Seattle. The trade was announced with the deadline less than two weeks away, and Nelson is in the final season of the four-year, $80 million extension he signed in 2022, according to public contract data from OverTheCap. He is due to become a free agent in 2027.
For Indianapolis, the deal comes amid broader change. The Colts fired general manager Chris Ballard on Oct. 19, and multiple national reports have framed the team as moving veteran assets for draft capital following the front-office shakeup. Seattle’s announcement said the compensation heading to Indianapolis is a third-round pick in 2027 and a fifth-round pick in 2028.
Nelson arrives with a long track record and strong recent form, making him one of the most notable players moved so far before this year’s deadline. Still, the trade is not yet complete: The Seahawks said it remains pending Nelson’s physical.
