GTA VI Pre-Download Starts Nov. 10; PS5 Owners Advised to Free 212GB Ahead of Nov. 19 Launch
Sony and Rockstar now say Grand Theft Auto VI can be pre-downloaded starting Nov. 10, giving players a longer runway before the game’s Nov. 19 launch and a new date to note if they had been expecting a later preload. Sony is also telling PlayStation 5 owners to “clear a minimum of 212GB of storage space on your PS5,” according to a Nov. 3 post on the PlayStation Blog.
The same PlayStation post said, “Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19 on PlayStation 5, with pre-download available starting November 10.” Rockstar’s official Grand Theft Auto VI page now matches that timetable, stating “Pre-Load Begins November 10” and listing the game as “Coming November 19, 2026” for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
That appears to update earlier official guidance. A June 24, 2026, Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games press release had said digital pre-loading would begin on Nov. 12, 2026. The newer Nov. 3 posts from PlayStation and Rockstar indicate the preload schedule has since been moved up by two days.
For PlayStation users, Sony’s post says the pre-download begins at local midnight on Nov. 10, rather than at one single global release time. Sony’s storage note is specifically guidance for PS5 users, not a confirmed final install size for every platform version. Rockstar’s current store page confirms the game’s launch platforms as PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The company’s previously announced launch plans still do not include a PC release date.
The updated timing matters because Grand Theft Auto VI is one of the year’s biggest game launches, and the preload window gives players more time to get the game downloaded before release day. For anyone planning to play at launch, the practical steps are simple: make room on a PS5 now if needed, and check your console store’s timing for when the pre-download goes live in your region.
