Samsung Unveils Galaxy S25 Edge: Its Thinnest Flagship Smartphone

Samsung Electronics has officially unveiled the Galaxy S25 Edge, its thinnest flagship smartphone to date, measuring just 5.84mm in thickness and weighing 163 grams. This ultra-slim design marks a significant shift in the company's approach to smartphone aesthetics and functionality.

The Galaxy S25 Edge combines cutting-edge technology with a sleek form factor, featuring a 6.7-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display, the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, and a 200-megapixel main camera. However, this pursuit of slimness raises questions about potential compromises in battery life and camera versatility.

The Galaxy S25 Edge boasts a 6.7-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display with a resolution of 3120x1440 pixels, offering a pixel density of approximately 513 ppi. The display supports a 120Hz refresh rate and achieves a peak brightness of 2,600 nits, ensuring vibrant visuals and smooth scrolling.

Under the hood, the Galaxy S25 Edge is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, coupled with 12GB of RAM. It offers storage options of 256GB and 512GB. The device runs on Android 15 with Samsung's One UI 7 interface, providing a user-friendly experience.

The rear camera setup includes a 200-megapixel main sensor with an f/1.7 aperture, featuring PDAF and OIS for enhanced image stabilization. Accompanying this is a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera. The front-facing camera is a 12-megapixel sensor capable of recording 4K videos at 30/60fps.

The device is equipped with a 3,900mAh battery, supporting 25W wired charging and Qi wireless charging. Despite its slim profile, Samsung has implemented efficient cooling technology to manage heat dissipation.

The Galaxy S25 Edge supports 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4. It includes an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication and carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

The Galaxy S25 Edge is set to launch in South Korea on May 23, 2025, and in the U.S. on May 30, 2025. Pricing starts at $1,099 for the 256GB variant. Samsung plans to expand availability to approximately 30 countries, including China and European markets.

The introduction of the Galaxy S25 Edge may signal the end of the Galaxy S25 Plus model. Sales figures indicate lower demand for the S25 Plus compared to other models in the series, suggesting that the Edge could replace the Plus variant in future lineups.

Samsung's launch of the Galaxy S25 Edge precedes Apple's anticipated release of a thinner iPhone model later this year. This strategic move positions Samsung ahead in the race to offer ultra-thin, high-performance smartphones, appealing to consumers seeking portability without compromising on features.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge combines cutting-edge technology with a sleek design, reflecting Samsung's commitment to innovation in the competitive smartphone market. Its ultra-slim profile, advanced camera system, and robust performance make it a noteworthy addition to the Galaxy S series.
