Meta Introduces AI-Powered Voice Translation for Facebook and Instagram Creators
Meta has introduced an AI-powered voice translation feature for creators on Facebook and Instagram, enabling them to translate spoken content between English and Spanish. This tool preserves the creator's original voice tone and style, offering an optional lip-sync function to align translated audio with mouth movements, enhancing the naturalness of dubbed content. Creators can activate this feature by selecting "Translate your voice with Meta AI" before publishing a reel, with the option to review translations prior to posting.
This development underscores Meta's commitment to leveraging AI to enhance user engagement and content accessibility across its platforms. The feature is available to Facebook creators with 1,000 or more followers and all public Instagram accounts globally, where Meta AI is offered. Meta plans to support additional languages beyond English and Spanish in the future.
Meta has been actively integrating AI technologies to enhance user engagement and content accessibility. In April 2025, Meta expanded its AI assistant, Meta AI, to Ray-Ban smart glasses users in seven additional European countries, introducing features like live translation and a real-time visual assistant. Additionally, in February 2025, Meta launched the Language Technology Partner Program in collaboration with UNESCO to collect speech recordings and transcriptions, aiming to develop AI models that support diverse languages.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri stated, "We believe there are lots of amazing creators out there who have potential audiences who don’t necessarily speak the same language. And if we can help you reach those audiences who speak other languages, reach across cultural and linguistic barriers, we can help you grow your following and get more value out of Instagram and the platform."
The AI-powered translation feature can make content more accessible to non-English or non-Spanish speaking audiences, fostering inclusivity. By breaking language barriers, creators can share their content with a global audience, promoting cross-cultural understanding. However, studies have highlighted concerns about accent bias and digital exclusion in AI voice services. For instance, research indicates that current speech generation technologies may inadvertently reinforce linguistic privilege and accent-based discrimination, potentially creating new forms of digital exclusion.
Meta's AI-powered voice translation feature represents a significant advancement in content creation, enabling creators to reach a broader audience while maintaining the authenticity of their voice. As Meta continues to expand language support and refine the technology, this tool has the potential to reshape the digital content landscape, fostering greater inclusivity and cultural exchange.
