Max Verstappen extends Red Bull contract through 2030
Max Verstappen has signed a contract extension with Red Bull that will keep the four-time Formula 1 champion with the team through the end of the 2030 season, according to Red Bull’s announcement as reported Thursday by Formula1.com. The move was announced in the buildup to the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, Verstappen’s home race, and shuts down immediate questions about his future.
The new agreement adds two years to Verstappen’s previous Red Bull deal, which had been due to run through 2028. That earlier extension was publicly announced on March 3, 2022. No financial terms, clause details or full contract text were made public in the announcement material reviewed Thursday.
Verstappen, 28, has been Red Bull’s standout driver since joining the team in 2016 following a midseason promotion from Toro Rosso, Red Bull’s junior team at the time. As of Thursday’s announcement, Formula1.com listed him with 71 Grand Prix victories and four drivers’ championships, won in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. He has become one of the defining drivers of the current era and the centerpiece of Red Bull’s success over the past several seasons.
Formula1.com said the extension “brings a definitive end to the rumours” surrounding Verstappen’s future after speculation during Red Bull’s weaker spell under Formula 1’s new regulations. The report did not include any fresh direct quotes from Verstappen or Red Bull, and no additional contract details were disclosed.
The timing is significant for both Verstappen and Red Bull. Verstappen was already tied to the team for the next several seasons, but the extension pushes that commitment out to 2030 and removes uncertainty just before the series arrives at Zandvoort for his home Grand Prix.
