Tottenham reach verbal agreement with Manchester City to sign Savinho in deal up to £85m

·

Tottenham have reportedly reached an agreement in principle with Manchester City to sign Savinho in a deal worth up to 85 million pounds ($116 million), according to ESPN and multiple other outlets, though the move had not been officially confirmed by either club as of Friday.

ESPN reported Aug. 21, citing sources, that Tottenham had struck a deal for the 22-year-old Brazilian winger. The Associated Press and other reputable outlets also reported that Tottenham and City had agreed a transfer package that could rise to 85 million pounds. David Ornstein reported the structure as 75 million pounds up front plus up to 10 million pounds in add-ons, with about 5 million pounds of those bonuses described as highly achievable. Fabrizio Romano said there was a “club-to-club verbal agreement” and reported that Savinho was expected to travel for a medical at Tottenham.

The deal is not yet complete. As the AP noted, “Neither City nor Tottenham have made any official comment.” That leaves the transfer awaiting the remaining formal steps, including a medical and official announcement, before it can be considered finalized.

If completed at the reported price, the move would represent one of the biggest Premier League transfers of the summer. AP said it would also be a potential club-record sale for Manchester City. For Tottenham, it would mark another major outlay in a heavy-spending 2026 summer rebuild under coach Roberto De Zerbi. Spurs have already been linked with significant spending this window, including a reported deal for Sandro Tonali worth up to 100 million pounds.

Savinho, a Brazil international, joined Manchester City from Troyes on July 18, 2024, signing a five-year contract through 2029. Before arriving at City, he broke out on loan at Girona in the 2023-24 season, where City’s own profile credited him with 11 goals and 10 assists. Still only 22, he is regarded as one of the more prominent young wide players on the market, which helps explain the size of the reported fee.

Romano wrote on social media: “BREAKING: Tottenham reach verbal agreement with Manchester City to sign Savinho, here we go! Club to club verbal agreement in place tonight with Sávio set to travel for medical at #THFC. Fee will be over £75m, details to follow.” Ornstein similarly reported that Tottenham had reached an agreement in principle for the Brazil winger on a deal worth 75 million pounds plus add-ons.

For now, though, the key point is that the transfer remains reported rather than official. Multiple outlets say Tottenham and Manchester City have agreed the framework of a deal for Savinho, but formal confirmation from the clubs was still pending at the time of publication.
