Rays Avoid Sweep, Beat Brewers 4-3 in 12th on Williamson’s Walk-Off Single
The Tampa Bay Rays stayed alive in the World Series on Tuesday night, beating the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in 12 innings in Game 4 on Ben Williamson’s pinch-hit walk-off single at Tropicana Field. The victory cut Milwaukee’s lead in the best-of-seven series to 3-1 and prevented a four-game sweep.
Milwaukee moved in front 3-2 in the top of the 12th when Cooper Pratt hit a go-ahead home run. Tampa Bay answered in the bottom half after entering the inning down to its final three outs. Jonny DeLuca tied it with an RBI single, Chandler Simpson followed with a single to load the bases, and Williamson — batting for Victor Mesa Jr. — ended it with a ground single to right that scored pinch-runner Nick Fortes.
The Rays had been on the verge of elimination before their final rally. Ian Seymour got the win for Tampa Bay, and Shane Drohan took the loss for Milwaukee. Tampa Bay finished with four runs on nine hits and one error, while Milwaukee had three runs on eight hits and two errors.
The result extended a series that had looked close to ending quickly. The Brewers arrived in St. Petersburg with a 3-0 lead after taking the first three games, including a 10-1 win in Game 3. Neither Milwaukee nor Tampa Bay had won a World Series title as of 2026, so the series remains open with both franchises still chasing a first championship.
Game 5 is scheduled for Wednesday night in Tampa, with first pitch set for 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
According to MLB research, it was one of 16 previous World Series walk-off wins by a team facing elimination, and the only prior team to avoid a sweep with a World Series walk-off was the 1910 Chicago Cubs.
