Goldman Sachs Appoints Aekloveya Shyam to Lead Global Real Estate M&A
Goldman Sachs has appointed Aekloveya Shyam as the new head of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) within its Global Real Estate Group, according to an internal memo obtained by Reuters. Shyam, who joined the firm in 2011, previously served as a managing director in the Healthcare Group within Investment Banking. In his new role, he will oversee strategic transactions and advisory services, reporting directly to Mike Graziano and Andy Jonas, co-heads of the Global Real Estate Group.
Shyam's promotion reflects Goldman Sachs' ongoing efforts to strengthen its leadership team and enhance its capabilities in the real estate sector. The firm has been actively expanding its presence in private credit and private equity markets. In January 2025, Goldman Sachs announced the creation of the Capital Solutions Group, combining financing, origination, structuring, and risk management activities to better serve corporate and investor clients. This initiative aims to capitalize on the growing demand for private credit and other asset classes that can be privately deployed.
David Solomon, Chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs, stated, "Our strategy and core franchise strengths position Goldman Sachs to operate at the fulcrum of one of the most important structural trends taking place in finance: the emergence and growth of private credit and other asset classes that can be privately deployed." He added, "There is significant demand from our investing clients for private credit and private equity—from investment grade and leveraged lending to hybrid capital and asset-backed finance as well as equity."
The real estate market has undergone significant transformations over the past five years, influenced by factors such as interest rate fluctuations and emerging secular trends. Goldman Sachs has been actively engaging with industry leaders to navigate these changes and identify investment opportunities. The appointment of Shyam is seen as a strategic move to bolster the firm's expertise and leadership in this evolving sector.
Shyam's extensive experience in managing complex, high-value transactions across multiple regions positions him well to lead the M&A activities within the Global Real Estate Group. His leadership is expected to drive strategic growth and enhance Goldman Sachs' advisory services in the real estate domain.
This appointment underscores Goldman Sachs' commitment to adapting to market dynamics and meeting client demands in private credit and private equity. By strengthening its leadership team and expanding its service offerings, the firm aims to maintain its competitive edge in the global financial landscape.
