Goldman Sachs Appoints Ben Wallace as Co-Head of Americas M&A Division
Goldman Sachs has appointed Ben Wallace as co-head of its Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) division for the Americas, according to an internal memo. Wallace, who became a partner at the bank in 2022, will continue to serve as the global head of healthcare M&A, a role he has held since joining Goldman Sachs as managing director in 2018. In his expanded role, Wallace will collaborate with Avinash Mehrotra and Brian Haufrect to lead the regional M&A franchise. His responsibilities will include setting the strategic direction, driving business development, and ensuring smooth integration across the Americas M&A platform. This appointment underscores Goldman Sachs’ commitment to reinforcing its leadership in M&A advisory services across the region.
Before joining Goldman Sachs, Wallace was a managing director in mergers and acquisitions at JPMorgan Chase, specializing in healthcare transactions. He began his career at JPMorgan in 2006 and was promoted to managing director in 2016. During his tenure, he worked on over $500 billion in announced transactions.
Since joining Goldman Sachs in 2018, Wallace has advised on significant deals, including the $30 billion leveraged buyout of Medline Industries—the largest such transaction since the 2008 financial crisis—and the $16.4 billion sale of Varian to Siemens Healthineers.
Wallace's promotion reflects Goldman Sachs' strategic emphasis on healthcare M&A, a sector experiencing growth due to aging populations, technological advancements, and regulatory changes. His dual role positions the firm to capitalize on cross-border transactions and regional deal-making opportunities.
Goldman Sachs has been a leading advisor in the M&A sector, with private equity firms accounting for nearly 40% of global merger volume in 2023, almost double their share from a decade ago. The firm anticipates continued growth in deal-making activities, with private equity playing a significant role.
Wallace's appointment as co-head of Americas M&A at Goldman Sachs signifies the firm's strategic focus on the healthcare sector and its commitment to reinforcing its leadership in M&A advisory services across the region.
