Atlanta to Host 2025 MLB All-Star Game, Feature Youngest Starting Pitcher in History
Atlanta is set to host the 2025 Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Game at Truist Park on Tuesday, July 15, marking the city's third time hosting the Midsummer Classic. The event returns to Atlanta after the 2021 game was relocated due to objections over Georgia's voting laws.
The All-Star Game will feature a compelling pitching matchup between Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers and Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Both pitchers participated in the 2024 All-Star Game without allowing any runs and return this year as starters. At 23, Skenes will make history as the youngest pitcher to start two consecutive All-Star Games. Skubal, who tossed a scoreless inning in last year’s Midsummer Classic, will become the first Tigers pitcher to start the All-Star Game since Max Scherzer in 2013.
Leading up to the main event, MLB has organized a series of activities, including the HBCU Swingman Classic, the All-Star Futures Game, the MLB All-Star Celebrity Softball Game, and the T-Mobile Home Run Derby. Fans can also look forward to the MLB Home Run Derby X, a co-ed 3-on-3 competition featuring future Hall of Famers and prominent figures from professional softball and women's baseball.
Ticket demand for All-Star Week events has surged, with average prices reaching their highest levels in over a decade. The T-Mobile Home Run Derby tickets average $1,041, while the All-Star Game tickets average $1,183. This increase is attributed to heightened demand, rising regular-season attendance, and higher TV viewership. Atlanta's return as the host city after the relocation of the 2021 All-Star Game has also contributed to this trend.
To enhance the fan experience, the Atlanta Braves have implemented significant technological upgrades at Truist Park. These include the installation of 12 new LED displays, highlighted by a 65x121-foot BravesVision center field videoboard, which boasts over double the pixels of its predecessor. Additional enhancements include ribbon boards, displays in the Outfield Market and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Park, and updates to venues in The Battery Atlanta.
Security measures are comprehensive, with coordination between local, state, and federal agencies to ensure the safety of attendees. Officials anticipate an economic impact of at least $50 million over the week, with over 41,000 fans expected to fill Truist Park on game day and up to 20,000 more gathering in surrounding areas like The Battery Atlanta and the Cobb Galleria.
The 2025 MLB All-Star Game promises to be a memorable event, celebrating the sport's finest talents and providing fans with an array of engaging activities throughout the week.
