Grand Rapids Transforms for ArtPrize 2025, Embracing Art and Community

Grand Rapids, Michigan, is set to host ArtPrize 2025 from September 18 to October 4, transforming the city into a sprawling, interactive art exhibition featuring over 1,100 artists from 39 states and 18 countries.

Celebrating its 15th year, ArtPrize 2025 continues to be a significant cultural event, offering $600,000 in prizes and grants, and attracting nearly 800,000 visitors annually.

Since its inception in 2009, ArtPrize has grown into one of the world's most attended public art events, fostering community engagement and supporting artists. The festival spans 17 days, with artworks displayed across 155 venues, including museums, galleries, parks, and public spaces throughout downtown Grand Rapids.

One of the standout installations this year is "Arborialis," a 9,000-square-foot walk-through luminarium by the UK's Architects of Air, offering an immersive experience of light, color, and sound. Another highlight is the "Art of the Olympians" exhibition, showcasing works by Olympian and Paralympian artists, highlighting the intersection of athleticism and artistic expression.

The festival kicks off with an Opening Celebration on September 19 at Rosa Parks Circle, featuring a lantern-making workshop, parade, and fireworks. Every Saturday, the Merchants + Makers Markets on Monroe Center will feature local artisans and vendors. On September 26, the HalfTime Event, presented by Rockford, includes live music and the Top 20 Reveal. The Awards Ceremony on October 3 will be a citywide livestream event with performances, celebrating the festival's top artists.
