AWS and Google Cloud Collaborate on Multicloud Networking Service
Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud have announced a collaborative multicloud networking service designed to streamline and expedite private, high-speed connectivity between their cloud platforms. This initiative integrates AWS's Interconnect–multicloud with Google Cloud's Cross-Cloud Interconnect, enabling customers to establish secure links between the two environments in minutes—a process that previously could take weeks.
The collaboration introduces an open specification for network interoperability, aiming to enhance network reliability and performance for businesses operating across multiple cloud providers. This development follows a significant AWS outage on October 20, 2025, which disrupted numerous websites and highlighted the need for more resilient cloud networking solutions.
As organizations increasingly adopt multicloud architectures, the need for interoperability between cloud service providers has become paramount. Historically, connecting these environments has been challenging, often requiring a complex "do-it-yourself" approach to managing global, multi-layered networks at scale.
The newly announced service combines AWS's Interconnect–multicloud with Google Cloud's Cross-Cloud Interconnect. This integration allows customers to quickly and securely set up private, high-bandwidth links between AWS and Google Cloud, avoiding the need for public connections or complex private networking setups. The service offers a fully managed, cloud-to-cloud experience with pre-built capacity pools, enabling on-demand bandwidth adjustments without the need to manage physical hardware or virtual routing infrastructure.
Robert Kennedy, AWS Vice President of Network Services, highlighted the initiative as a major advancement in multicloud connectivity, providing customers with a simplified, resilient, and secure solution that can be activated with minimal effort.

The outage, rooted in a malfunction within a health monitoring subsystem in AWS's EC2 internal network, affected DNS resolution tied to DynamoDB, causing major service disruptions emanating from AWS’s US-EAST-1 data center in Northern Virginia. This incident underscored the fragility and heavy reliance on a few global cloud providers.
Amid surging internet traffic and growing adoption of artificial intelligence, tech giants like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft are increasingly investing in infrastructure to support rising computing demands. AWS continues to lead the cloud services market, reporting $33 billion in revenue for Q3 2025—more than double that of Google Cloud’s $15.16 billion.
Salesforce is among the first customers to adopt the new solution, emphasizing its utility for enhancing AI and analytics grounded in secure, accessible data. Jim Ostrognai, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering at Salesforce, stated, "Integrating Salesforce Data 360 with the broader IT landscape requires robust, private connectivity. AWS Interconnect–multicloud allows us to establish these critical bridges to Google Cloud with the same ease as deploying internal AWS resources."
