NVIDIA to Manufacture AI Chips and Supercomputers in the U.S.

Published:

NVIDIA has announced plans to manufacture its artificial intelligence (AI) chips and supercomputers in the United States for the first time, marking a significant shift in the company's production strategy. The initiative involves securing over one million square feet of manufacturing space in Arizona and Texas to build and test its Blackwell AI chips and supercomputers.

Production has already commenced at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC)'s facility in Phoenix, Arizona. Additionally, NVIDIA is collaborating with Foxconn in Houston and Wistron in Dallas to establish supercomputer manufacturing plants in Texas, with mass production expected to begin within 12 to 15 months. This initiative is part of NVIDIA's broader strategy to invest up to $500 billion in AI infrastructure over the next four years, aiming to strengthen supply chains, meet rising demand, and enhance economic resilience.

NVIDIA's investment is projected to create hundreds of thousands of jobs, bolstering the U.S. economy and enhancing the nation's technological leadership. By localizing production, NVIDIA aims to strengthen supply chain resilience, reduce dependency on foreign manufacturing, and meet the escalating demand for AI technologies.

This initiative aligns with the U.S. government's efforts to revitalize domestic manufacturing, particularly in the semiconductor sector. The CHIPS and Science Act, enacted in August 2022, allocated $52.7 billion to boost domestic semiconductor research and manufacturing, aiming to enhance supply chain resilience and counter global competitors.

NVIDIA's announcement is part of a larger trend of substantial investments in AI infrastructure. In January 2025, President Donald Trump announced a private-sector investment of up to $500 billion for AI infrastructure, involving companies like OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank in a venture named Stargate. This project aims to build data centers and create over 100,000 American jobs, underscoring the strategic importance of AI development in the U.S.

NVIDIA's commitment to domestic AI hardware production marks a significant milestone in the U.S. technology sector, reflecting broader trends in reshoring manufacturing and investing in critical infrastructure to maintain a competitive edge in the global AI landscape.
